Oysters, like many mollusks, are having a hard time building their shells due to ocean acidification. Increased carbon dioxide in the air is absorbed by the ocean, together with pollution, rising temperatures and other factors make it difficult for the oyster larvae in particular to form their calcium carbonate shells. In Oyster Melt I try to symbolize a dissolving of a species, stressed and threatened by climate change.
