Anyone who's seen my painting Memento Mori knows that I have a bit of an obsession with mussels. For me they epitomize the northern coastal experience. Blue as the ocean itself and lined with a subtle luster these bivalves have been the sustenance that could be scavenged when little else was available. They speak to me of tenacity and hope.
