Stilla Maris is Latin for "drop of the sea" and is thought to be the original translation of Miryam (Mary) before being transcribed as Stella Maris “star of the sea”. This piece has evolved has over time, born from a story of a floating church called Stella Maris that I used to own, an examination of faith and a reframing of what is seen as holy. I wanted this found starburst halo frame, that is typically associated with the Virgin Mary, to contain an image of the ocean and for the attached holy water font to be filled with water collect from the Pacific Ocean, with the notion that all water is indeed holy.
