Monterey Cypress Commission Day 2

Day 2 and I’m on fire!

Working primarily dark to light, I’m blocking in the color in an impressionistic manner, keeping space between brushstrokes. This helps to keep the colors from muddying early on. One of the keys to a unified color palette is to seed bits of color around the painting. There are bits of purple and peach in the blue sky, tones of blue and purple in the brown stone and green vegetation and greens and rose in the sea. Slowly the white spaces are filled in and wet in wet painting occurs, blending colors and things start to look painterly.
