I’m working on a new monterey cypress commission for a couple in France.

I took this photograph at Point Lobos State Park earlier this summer.

The image is sketched out directly in oil, using bright undertones for a liveliness that will come through in the finished painting.

This simple loose sketch gives me an opportunity to make sure I like the balance of the composition before I being to lay in the paint.
