SWAN Day Exhibition

Bankhead TheaterThe SWAN (Support Women Artists Now) Day Exhibition showing at the Bankhead Theater in Livermore (a beautiful facility that will get a steady audience through on show nights) is the very first all women’s show I think I’ve ever participated in!

The show was arranged by SVWAC, the Silicon Valley Women’s Art Caucus and juried by Linda Ryan, Manager of the Bothwell Arts Center, Curator of the Bankhead Theater Exhibition Program and a member of the Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center (LVPAC).

It was such a pleasure to meet so many interesting female artists working in a great variety of media with unique approaches to their art. Here is just a glimpse of the show from the April 2nd reception and a few of the participating artists. Links to their websites are provided by clicking on their names (where applicable and when I managed to hang onto their business cards).

Lovely Livermore

To be honest, when contemplating a call to entry, location is a bit of a factor. I have to consider whether or not the exhibition is worth the shipping expense or if I can drop it off, how far am I willing to drive? After all, it does take away from valuable studio time. So slowly and carefully, I am expanding into new frontiers. Today, for example, I dropped off two pieces (Feathers and Dahlia Days) at the Bankhead Theater in Livermore for their Swan Day Exhibition which was organized by the Silicon Valley Women’s Caucus for Art. Livermore is only an hour away from Los Gatos but I’d never been and was really surprised by how charming I found it to be. Founded in 1876, there is such an eclectic mix of period and vintage architecture and a really vibrant downtown that feels both authentic and relaxed with lots of people happily buzzing over lunch in it’s many varied restaurants. I thought I’d share some of the Livermore vibe:
